New Blogspots coming soon!

I am excited to introduce my new advanced art students to you!  They are currently working hard to bring their visions to you and they will be creating their blogspots soon!

In the meantime, check out the blogspots to the right - several students are continuing to use these, as they are now in college and they are sharing their journals and art with us!

AP...Comes to an end!

Our AP students did a magnificent job completing their 2011 AP portfolios and getting them turned in with GREAT breadth work, GREAT concentration pieces and strong commentaries.  It was a joy teaching these 20 students (even though one moved on me we still managed to get his work done and submitted on time! and one didn't go all the way) they still grew as artists, thinkers and wonderful, caring humans!  I adore them all!

Carnival / Circus Art

AP and Draw/Paint II students were required to draw or paint a piece of art that evoked an emotion found at a carnival or circus setting.  They had to incorporate collage somewhere in their piece.  I think they did a great job!

NAHS Conference 2011

Dr. B and I just got back from a fun ART weekend in Atlanta with 18 of our NAHS students!  We are SO proud of their hard work in getting their push pin art and portfolio art ready for this exciting weekend!  They did North Gwinnett High School PROUD!  Allison Eddy received a well deserved $300 3D art award, and spending Saturday evening at SCAD and honoring our Reed for his well deserved SCAD Challenge Honorable Mention was the icing on the cake!  Here are the 2 award winning pieces...photos from our conference are coming soon!

Favorite Teacher Portraits!

Students had fun recreating their Favorite Teachers in any media they chose!  I think the art is fantastic and our teachers thoroughly enjoyed seeing these wonderful art works!

We completed our Large Scale Food Paintings right before the AP Performance Final Art Show!  Very impressive and successful and the best part, ALL of my kiddos ENJOYED the lesson - who knew painting food could be so much fun!

Finished Figure Work

Our "Figure Fridays" were a huge success again this year! For 8 weeks we had dance students come into the art room to pose for about 10 minutes. Each Friday, our AP students did gesture drawings of the dancers using a different medium each day, so that they ended up with a large piece of paper with layers of figure studies done in graphite, charcoal, oil pastel, pen and ink, acrylic, watercolor, chalk, crayon and colored pencil. When the 8 weeks were over, my art students had 4 days to deconstruct their figure works and create a new piece! The work is OUTSTANDING!

Bike Drawings

I am really impressed with the technical drawings my students did of our classroom bikes! Several went beyond the technical and got very creative as well! I am in love with this class!

Very excited to see my 2010-2011 AP Blogspots that have been created over this past week! I will be posting them this week! We have a lot of work to post and we will be crazy busy getting ready for SCHOLASTIC entries...due in 1 week!!

Stippling Project...

Students did a GREAT job working on their stippling project for their breadth section. Several students got create and figured out a way to add this to their concentration section!

Semester 2 - AiMS #1

So we are off to an amazing start with our AiMS #1 assignment, spring 2010! My AP students were to be inspired by the art of Karen Michel, manipulate paper in a creative way and use the lyrics of a song as the subject matter...I think you will be amazed at the results! The best part was during the crit presentations, as students shared their art, they played a portion of their song in the background...it was a super aesthetic experience!

AP students now have 10 AiMS completed and 12 HOT homework assignments done (higher order thinking)...they are on their way to putting together incredible AP portfolios! I think the concentrations are strong but they need to really work on their breadth work. The next AiMS should push them hard on their technical skills.
